An introduction is due…
Hello, everyone…this is my first Puerto Rico Law Blog post and perhaps I should introduce myself.
My name is Christian M. Frank Fas.
I’m an attorney in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and given the particularities of our law and political status, I’ve come to the idea that a legal blog about Puerto Rico may be of service to the global community. The decision to create this blog is related to my own misgivings trying to find information on legal matters in Puerto Rico. It seems that the legal community hasn’t turned to blogging as a collective, so perhaps it is time to condense all the useful information I’ve gathered through (and after) law school and share it.
First things first, a little about myself. I was born in Cabo Rojo, a small township in southwestern Puerto Rico. After completing a Criminology Bachelor’s at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, I attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico Law School in Ponce. Since then, I’ve lived in Ponce for the last 4 years, and enjoy a solo practice in civil and criminal matters.
My major legal interests are Wills and Estates, Contracts and Family Law. Being a mixed jurisdiction, Puerto Rico bears a marked difference with most of the United States, except for Louisiana. Given our Hispanic heritage, our Civil Code bears a huge resemblance with Louisiana’s, since both stem from the Napoleonic Code. Added to this, Common Law was thrown into the mix after the American invasion during the Spanish-American War, and the result is a Mixed jurisdiction, half civil law, and half common law, which coexist peacefully in a bi-lingual Hispanic unique culture.
Well, enough history for now…I’ll be updating with a few legal resources, and don’t hesitate in emailing me questions. I take giving advice very seriously, in fact, that’s what I do for a living…

Mr. Frank Fas
It is a real preasure to see a person who had the courage to establish a blog about Puerto Rican Law and everything related to it.
Most of the times, Criminal Justice College students are related with laws, such as myself, and of course other fields, such as Socialm Studies, Forensic Pshycology, etc; It’s a need to entwine with other , because is in this system that all of us will be working together as a team.
As a matter of a fact, I’m from Ponce myself, and planning to go to Law School afterwards. Right now, I am in Washignton D.C. doing my internship in the Congress of the United States, and the only one from Ponce, Puerto Rico.
I strongly believe that in this changing world, and in a more objective view, Puerto Rico, is been confronting the most challenging social problems ever,(Criminality above all) and is right there, were the Criminal Justice System should stand firm.
I would be interested in joining the blog, and will make sure to pass the message along to other mates.
Thank you for this.
Please, keep in touch.
